World Book Day
Thursday, 5th March was World Day, and what a day we had! The children and staff really enjoyed dressing-up as their favourite book character and the school was awash with colour and excited conversations!
The day started with assemblies followed by a Shared Read Book Swap where the children moved to different classes to share stories with pupils from other year groups. The upper school children were so nurturing with the younger ones and read beautifully with them, it was lovely to watch and we are so proud of them all.
In the afternoon, we had a visit from Waterstones staff who came in and set-up a bookshop so the children could exchange their WBD voucher for a book.
The celebration of reading continued throughout the week with lots of reading related activities in class as well as visits by published Authors: Jenny McLachlan and Simon Phillip, the children loved this.
Other activities included a 'Readathon' where the children had the opportunity to read in class each day as well as take part in a 'Design a Book Cover' competition. The children were also encouraged to take part in Reading Somewhere Extreme and send in their photographs for the display, it was great to see so many of them take up the challenge! We have seen so much fabulous work lead on from the author visits and the activities based on Flotsam. The children clearly loved the lessons and have shown so much creativity in their work.
We also wanted to share with Parents what the children had been working on during book week so we invited them into school. It was really lovely to see so many parents embracing this opportunity and to see how proud the children were to show off their wonderful work.
Thank you to everyone who took part, it was an amazing book week!
