Year 4 Newsletter - Autumn Term 1 2026

Well, here we are starting a new term and a new year after a refreshing summer break. We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead of us as in Term 1, Year 4 will be studying earthquakes and volcanoes in Topic, which is always a favourite!

In Science, we will be investigating materials and studying their properties and in computing we will be learning about e-safety and unpicking hardware. This term it’s all of year 4’s turn to go swimming, with each class going at a different time each Friday for 10 weeks. Please remember to tell the children to come into school in their swimming costumes and don’t forget a towel.

We will be starting reading ‘The Land of Roar’ by local author Jenny McLachlan and building our English lessons around the text. Children will also be given reading books for them to read in school and at home. Any help with reading is most welcome as reading is vital to the progress of each child. Also, children will be able to access Times Tables Rockstars and any additional help with this would be much appreciated.

In SPHERE, we will be investigating the brain and positive relationships. We will be starting cricket and playing rugby in P.E. and during Art lessons, year 4 will be studying portraiture and the proportions of the face.

We are looking forward to the whole school Marsh walk in October. Remember your wellies! It could be cold and wet towards the end of this term so please ensure your child comes with appropriate warm clothing. (More details on dates to follow).
