Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to West Rise Primary & Nursery School

Welcome to Wonderful West Rise!

My name is Louise Muller, and I am the very proud Headteacher of West Rise Primary School.I feel absolutely privileged to be leading the school at this exciting time, working alongside the most amazing, committed, and talented team. I truly believe I have the best job in the world.

As an educator, I firmly believe that every child—given the opportunity and the self-belief—has the potential to achieve and be the very best they can be in all areas of their lives. Our aim is to grow happy, healthy humans who are equipped and ready for a world full of possibility. Central to this is our unique ‘Wellbeing First’ approach, which equips both children and adults with tools from positive psychology and mindfulness.

Originally from Cardiff, I have lived and worked in East Sussex since 2000. In fact, I am now entering my 25th year at West Rise! Over this time, I’ve witnessed many changes, the most significant being the amalgamation of the former Infant and Junior Schools into what is now West Rise Primary School—a happy and thriving community of children, families, and staff.

Although we are now one big school, with a single leadership team, one curriculum, and a shared ethos and vision, the unique layout of our site allows us to maintain a warm, nurturing environment—especially for our youngest children. They begin their school journey on the Infant side, where they grow in confidence to find their way around school safely and independently. As they progress through school, they gradually start spending time on the Junior side, taking part in assemblies and events focused on Care, Belonging, and Togetherness. Older pupils support and guide the younger ones in meaningful, planned ways. Essentially, their school grows with them. By the time they reach the end of Year 6, they are part of one big, positive learning environment where they can truly thrive.

In recent years, the school has experienced significant change. Thanks to the hard work and commitment of the entire West Rise team, we are back on track to being the best we can be. Our outcomes remain consistently strong in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage One, and are rapidly improving across Key Stage Two.

Of course, academic results are important—but we believe we should also be judged by the care and support we provide to our children and their families. We were delighted that our most recent Ofsted inspection confirmed we have maintained our Outstanding grading for pastoral care, noting that because of the nurture and support we provide, “children thrive at West Rise.”

So, may I offer you the warmest of welcomes to our lovely school. You can be confident that you have chosen a fantastic community for your child’s education. By working together in partnership, we will ensure that each and every child develops the confidence to learn, grow, and achieve excellence.

Warm regards,

OUR VISION STATEMENT

“ We believe excellence can be achieved if we care more than others think is wise, if we risk more than others think is safe, if we dream more than others think is practical, and we expect more than others think is possible."
