Year 3 Newsletter - Autumn Term 1 2026

A very warm welcome to all our Year 3 children and families as they begin their exciting journey into KeyStage 2! It has been a wonderful and extremely positive start to the term, and we are so proud of how well everyone has settled in. As we dive into our Year 3 adventure, our learning is already well underway. The children have started exploring a variety of different lessons and are showing excitement for their learning.

In Maths, we are beginning our journey with place value, developing a strong foundation in order for the children to build upon. We will also be continuing to practice our 2, 5, 10 times tables and would appreciate any support at home you can provide! In English, we will be using different stimulus to support the children’s writing. While looking at these different stimuli we will be focusing on the writing skills of using creative adjectives and developing sophisticated sentence openers. In our reading sessions, we will be exploring the book ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’ by Andy Shepherd.

In our Science lessons, we are delving into the fascinating world of magnetism! If you happen to have any safe magnets at home, it would be wonderful for your child to have a play and explore them before we learn about them in class. In History, we will begin by looking at the Stone Age to Iron Age and look forward to welcoming our visit or the ‘Stone Age Man’ on September 24th, which will provide a fantastic and truly 'stunning start' to our history topic.

Please continue to support your children with reading at home. Homework will be given out on Mondays, which we are also very grateful for your support with. PE sessions are on Monday and Tuesday, the children need to come to school in their PE kits. We are very lucky to be joining the ‘Seeds for Kids’ project this year. For this we will be going to the marsh to take part in the activities planned. Please ensure your child is wearing their suitable 'outdoor' clothing for these days:

• Juniper - Wednesday 23rd September

• Lavender - Tuesday 29th September

We would like to express a massive thank you to everyone for the returned holiday tasks from Year Two and congratulations to all those who received their certificates in our first assembly of Key Stage 2. A huge well done once again to all the lovely Year 3 children. Stepping up to a new Key Stage is a big change, and we are incredibly proud of you!
