Year 3 recently visited the Lewes Railway Wildlife Trust. The children got to identify different leaves and create flower transfers onto material. In this activity the children had to find a variety of flowers in their surroundings. They also got to build dens and use sling shots in the wooded area and learn about fossils by looking and touching different fossils. They also learnt about the creation of the world and soil in it. The children had a really enjoyable and educational day!
The Year 4 children completed some lovely artwork based on the book Kensuke’s Kingdom, they were inspired by the beautiful story and by the landscapes described.
The Year 5/6 football team competed valiantly at the Chiddingly tournament recently, achieving a commendable semi-final position. To get into the semi-final the team had to win their respective group, which they did with style! In the semi-final they faced Park Mead who then went on to win the final!
The boys played exceptionally well and showed true West Rise spirit.
Year 6 began their journey into Ancient China by exploring key questions: When did the Shang Dynasty begin? Who founded it? And where did the Shang rulers live?
They then delved into the fascinating discovery of the tomb of Fu Hao, using historical evidence to draw detailed reconstructions of what the tomb might have looked like before being buried around 1200 BCE.
To finish, they turned their attention to the mysterious oracle bones, learning how to translate ancient symbols into numbers — just like early Chinese scribes!
