Year 6 Summer Term 2 Newsletter 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

This term is all about celebrating the incredible journey our Year 6 children have had at primary school, while also preparing for their exciting transition to Year 7. We’ll be reminiscing and making memories, looking back at how far they’ve come, and recognising the confident, brilliant young people they are now.

In Maths, we’re brushing up on keyskills and then putting them into action by designing our very own theme parks and building exciting marble rollercoasters! In English, we’ve begun reading 'You Are Awesome' by Matthew Syed, which is inspiring us as we create our own booklets all about our future goals and ambitions. Along the way, there will be plenty of other fun, hands-on activities to keep learning, being creative, engaging and full of energy!

We are also planning our Year 6 Enterprising Event on 9th July (after the Rocksteady concert) – we’d love your support! Please come along, enjoy the event, buy some of the fantastic items the children have made and have a go at the games they’ve created.

Rehearsals for the Year 6 play will now be in full swing, with the children busy learning their lines, bringing each scene together and singing the songs on repeat and not forgetting the set designs! We can't wait to perform to all parents and carers on our last day!

A message to our Year 6 families

Walk your children to school one last time this term. Reminisce about the time you dropped them off at primary school and how tiny they were compared to their packed bags. Laugh about all the stones, the sticks and the junk modelling they used to proudly present. Tell them how proud you were watching them in their Reception nativity, or in a show or music concert or the lovely comments their teachers shared at parents evenings. More than anything, remember that little hand in yours when they approached the Reception playground for the very first time. Hold their much larger hand again this term, even if they don’t want you to—one last time.

We thank you for supporting your child through their years at West Rise Primary School 💙

Warm wishes - The Year 6 Team
