Year 6 - Spring Term 2 - Newsletter 2-26
We are looking forward to a fantastic few weeks in Year 6, packed with engaging learning across thecurriculum. Here’s a snapshot of what your child will be exploring:
Mathematics – Algebra & Arithmetic Focus
This term, we are sharpening our mathematical skills with a strong focus on algebra and arithmetic.
In algebra, pupils will:
Use simple formulae
Form and solve one-step and two-step equations
Find pairs of numbers that satisfy equations
Explore number patterns and sequences.
Alongside this, we will continue developing arithmetic fluency, practising long multiplication andlong division, fractions, decimals and percentages, problem solving and reasoning skills. Our aim is to build confidence, accuracy and speed — key skills the children need in preparation for secondary school.
English – WW2 Evacuee Diaries
Building on all our learning about World War Two, the children will now be applying their historicalknowledge in writing by:
Writing diary entries in role as a WW2 evacuee
Using emotive language to convey thoughts and feelings
Incorporating historical facts and vocabulary
Demonstrating strong sentence structure and cohesion.
This is a wonderful opportunity for children to combine historical understanding with creativity and empathy.
Science and Art – Habitats and EcosystemsT
The children will be issued with their very own Field Scientist Passes as they investigate habitats, how animals and plants adapt to survive, food chains and eco-systems and the impact humans have on the environment. This learning will link in with their Art where they will be designing and building their own model habitats, applying their understanding of eco-systems and consider how human activity could affect their model ecosystem.
Thank you for your continued support.
