Year 2 - Spring Term 2 - Newsletter 2026

Welcome back to Term 4! Can you believe we are over half way through the school year already? Time really does fly when you’re having fun! We have welcomed the children back to a very busy and exciting term. This term Year Two have been transported to the fascinating ‘Land of Ice and Snow’. We have already begun our expedition by thinking about what we would need to survive on a polar expedition. We are looking forward to learning all about the Polar Regions, the animals that live there and howthe weather compares to the UK.

In English, we will have a story telling focus and will be exploring some beautiful texts to help us with this, this first being ‘Leaf’ by Sandra Dieckmann. We will be encouraging the children to tell their stories before they write them as research shows that if children can say it they have a stronger chance of writing it. Maybe you might like to share some stories at home too. In Maths, we will be carrying on our learning on division and exploring how division links with multiplication. We will also be looking at doubling and halving amounts.

In History and Geography, we will focus to our exploration of Polar lands and finding out about what life is like there in comparison to here. In science, we will be learning about living things and their habitats. This term in PE, we will be focusing on fitness skills. In RE,we will explore why Easter matters to Christians. Later in the term we will move from polar lands to a country with a hotter climate, comparing the differences between them.

In the first week, we will have the pleasure of welcoming a very talented local artist into Year2. The children will have a fabulous focused art session, exploring the techniques used in chalk pastels, where the children will create their own masterpiece. How exciting!

Please also check that your child’s spelling book is in their book bag, as the children use these regularly in school to practise their spellings, for their spelling test and to receive their new spellings for the following week.

Many thanks.
