Reception class newsletter - Spring term 1 2024
Happy New Year to you all! We would like to begin this newsletter with a huge thank you for all our lovely cards and presents at Christmas, they were very much appreciated and it was very generous of you all.
We have welcomed the children back to a very busy and exciting term. Our theme will be 'People Who Help Us' from Firefighters to Nurses, Police Officers to their very own Teachers. We have selected a range of imaginative activities to spark discussions about helpful people in everyday life.
We have planned visits from professional paramedics, police officers and also a vet this term. This is used as an opportunity for different professions to come in and discuss how they help in the community. We are sure the children will be very excited!
These visits will also help thechildren work on some core skills including:
· Questioning- asking guests relevantquestions about their jobs.
· Listening- listening to the guestsquietly and sensibly.
· Writing- labelling, questions, sentences and captions related to ‘People Who Help Us’.
· Understanding the world- people, culture and communities - our local community.
· Expressive arts and designs- painting, junk model making and role play experiences.
In Literacy, the children will be hearing about 'The Jolly Postman' and learning about postcards, letters and other more forms of writing.
In Math we will continue to secure counting and number skills. We will be estimating and developing our addition skills too. This will be achieved by counting on or by adding 2 groups of objects. We will also be solving problems linked to doubling and sharing.
Following on from last term, you will continue to receive weekly planning and we will be delighted to read your comments and observations about your child’s learning, these are an important element of our partnership with you. Alongside all of our learning is our complete immersion in a mindful approach to school life. The children will use all their senses and deep breathing to harness the full potential of a calm and focused brain.
Can we please remind you to send PE kits back into school. In PE this term we will be focusing on ball skills, starting with throwing and catching skills and then leading onto football later in the term. May we politely remind everyone to make sure all clothes and PE kits are clearly labelled.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Reception Team.
